Parent Partnership Guidelines

At Valor Global Online, we believe every child is created with a divine purpose and has unique gifts to develop and share. Rooted in our efforts to honor God through academic excellence and spiritual growth, we are committed to fostering a Christ-centered environment where students thrive in their learning journey.

A strong partnership between the school and parents is vital to achieving this mission, especially in a synchronous online learning environment. Together, we can create a community of compassion, confidence, and collaboration that equips students to succeed academically, grow spiritually, and develop meaningful relationships. These guidelines outline the roles and responsibilities we share in cultivating a supportive and enriching educational experience for your child.


Parent Responsibilities

  1. Supporting the Learning Environment
    1. Create a Structured Learning Space: Provide a quiet, distraction-free area with reliable internet, a working computer, and all necessary learning materials.
    2. Establish a Consistent Routine: Set a daily schedule that includes attending live Zoom classes, completing assignments, and taking breaks. Monitor your child’s adherence to this schedule to ensure accountability.
  2. Provides BARK the parent contact emails to facilitate parents receiving BARK alerts.
  3. Attendance and Participation
    1. Ensure Daily Attendance: Ensure your child logs in on time and attends all live classes. If a class is missed, have your child watch the recording and complete any missed assignments.link
    2. Encourage Active Participation: Reinforce the importance of being present, engaged, and contributing to class discussions and group activities. This builds confidence and fosters a sense of community.
  4. Homework and Assignment Support
    1. Monitor Assignment Completion: Ensure your child submits assignments on time. Offer guidance when necessary while encouraging independence to promote responsibility.
    2. Reinforce Learning at Home: Support your child’s learning with regular reading, practicing new skills, and reviewing class materials.
  5. Communication and Collaboration
    1. Open Communication: Maintain regular communication with your child’s advocate and teachers to discuss progress, address concerns, and set academic and emotional goals. The advocate is your primary point of contact, dedicated to supporting your child’s growth.
    2. Attend Meetings and Events: Participate in parent-teacher meetings and school events to stay informed and engaged in your child’s education.
    3. Collaborative Problem Solving: Reach out to your child’s advocate first if challenges arise. Advocates and parents will work together to find solutions, involving administration only when necessary.
    4. Stay Updated: Read school-wide newsletters, join VGO social media pages, and respond promptly to school communications.
  6. Fostering Independence
    1. Encourage Self-Responsibility: Support your child in managing their schedule, completing assignments on time, and logging in independently for classes.
    2. Develop Problem-Solving Skills: Allow your child to solve challenges independently when appropriate while providing support as needed.
  7. Extracurricular Engagement
    1. Encourage In-Person Socialization: Engage your child in extracurricular activities, such as sports, clubs, or church groups, to foster social skills and personal growth beyond the virtual classroom.
  8. Spiritual and Community Development
    1. Support Faith-Based Learning: Reinforce biblical values and teachings in daily conversations and activities to complement classroom instruction.
    2. Participate in School-Wide Events: Participate in Valor’s community-building events, such as All School Assemblies, Activate, Unstoppable, Mission Trips, and RunForOne, to strengthen the connection between home, school, and faith.

School Responsibilities to Parents

1. Communication and Transparency

  • Regular Progress Updates: Advocates provide weekly progress reports, highlighting grades and areas of focus. Teachers offer specific feedback on assignments, grades, and class expectations.
  • School-Wide Communication: Parents have access to the Student and Parent Handbook, monthly newsletters, and updates through VGO’s social media platforms.
  • Open Lines of Communication: Advocates and teachers respond to questions and concerns within 24 hours on school days, ensuring timely support.

2. Support and Resources

Dedicated Advocate Support:

Each student/family has an advocate who:

  • Guides them in using VGO technology platforms.
  • Assists with daily planning and assignment management.
  • Provides academic, emotional, and spiritual support through homeroom sessions and individual meetings.
  • Collaborates with parents to resolve challenges and promote student success.
  • Advocates help students feel connected, supported, and engaged in their learning community.

Parent Resources and Training:

  • Provide live learning opportunities for parents on topics such as supporting reading, homework, and time management.
  • Access to school resources and helpful tools for supporting online learning.

3. Live Instruction and Academic Support

Highly-Qualified Teachers:

  • Teachers provide live, interactive instruction in a structured online setting.
  • Classes are recorded so students can review lessons for additional support.

Curriculum with Biblical Integration:

  • As an accredited school, students will receive a curriculum that supports learning standards while integrating Christian values into all subjects.

Student-Centered Learning Approach:

  • Advocates and teachers are committed to seeing and knowing each student, identifying their unique learning needs, and adapting instruction to help them thrive.

Extra Support:

  • Elementary Focus Group on Tuesdays and Thursdays for students who need extra support and/or a quite structured space to do homework.
  • Families have access to the Student Support App to schedule one-on-one meetings with teachers or advocates, request retries or extensions, and communicate absences.
