Cyberbullying and Academic Integrity Policy

Valor Global Online (VGO) is committed to fostering a safe and supportive online learning environment that upholds Biblical values. This article outlines the school's policies regarding cyberbullying and academic integrity, including plagiarism.

Cyberbullying Policy

Definition

Cyberbullying refers to electronic harassment, intimidation, or abusive behavior. This policy covers all online interactions within the VGO community.

Unacceptable Behavior

Examples include offensive messages, spreading rumors, impersonation, exclusion, or encouraging others to engage in cyberbullying.

Reporting

All interactions are monitored through Bark. Incidents outside VGO-approved platforms should be reported to a teacher, advocate, or staff member.

Restoration and Discipline

Measures may include mediation, educational programs, suspension of privileges, or legal action in severe cases.

Academic Integrity

Purpose

VGO values honesty and originality, expecting students to submit their own work and properly credit original authors.

Plagiarism and Copying

Strictly prohibited, students must submit original work and not allow their work to be copied.

Responsibilities
  • Students: Must not copy or allow copying, and must properly cite sources.
  • Teachers: Provide guidelines, educate about academic integrity, and monitor for plagiarism.
Disciplinary Actions
  • Student Who Allowed Copying: Ranges from verbal warning to expulsion.
  • Student Who Copied: Ranges from zero grade to expulsion.

Plagiarism Policy

Definition

Plagiarism involves presenting someone else's work as one's own without proper credit.

Consequences

Includes educational programs, redoing assignments, reduced grades, parent notification, or expulsion in severe cases.

Citing Sources

Students must provide accurate citations for all external sources, including Chat GPT. Failure to do so is considered plagiarism.

Appeals Process

Students may appeal disciplinary actions, and the policy will be periodically reviewed and revised as needed.

Valor Global Online's policies on cyberbullying and academic integrity reflect the school's commitment to a respectful and honest learning environment. By understanding and adhering to these guidelines, students contribute to a positive and enriching community.
